Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the #1 killer of men and women in the United States and in Colorado. However, studies have shown that 80% of CVD is preventable. Colorado Heart Healthy Solutions measures an individual's risk for CVD.
Through a simple finger prick, all 4 cholesterol levels (Total Cholesterol, LDL, HDL and Triglycerides), Hemoglobin A1c and glucose are measured. Blood pressure and body mass index are also calculated. Hemoglobin A1c testing is the gold standard for diagnosing diabetes and prediabetes. Additional questions are asked about lifestyle, medical history and behavioral health status.
All of this information is combined to calculate the risk of a heart attack or stroke in the next 10 years. Following the results, lifestyle coaching is available. Best of all, this program is completely free to Colorado residents. Please call Chaffee County Public Health at 719-539-4510 to schedule an appointment with a community health worker.
